- RMLP Chapter 298: Temporary Alliance (Part 2)
As they walked away from each other, that’s when it happened.
Both stopped walking simultaneously, as if prearranged.
A message had appeared.
[A death has occurred.]
[Player nickname: ‘VeryNice’]
[10 minutes have passed since death. The player will now be erased.]
[Remaining players: 142]
[Eliminated players: 1]
[Time remaining until the end of the round: 71:31:38]
Neither of them had expected a death notification to appear.
Nor did they know who the player with that nickname was.
All they knew was—it wasn’t the time to be wasting energy on arguments.
“One less player…”
“It hasn’t even been 30 minutes since the round started…”
Seo Arin and Min Juri exchanged looks, both now tense.
This wasn’t the time for pointless emotional disputes.
If they weren’t careful, other players might target them.
They couldn’t yet be sure the death was caused by another player—but still.
“Um… Seo Arin-ssi?”
“Y-Yes?”
Min Juri hesitated, her lips twitching slightly.
Then, as if gathering courage, she bit down gently on her lower lip.
“W-What do you think about sticking together for a while?”
“……”
“I mean, y-you saw the message, right? Someone died. We don’t know yet if it was a monster or a player who did it… but doesn’t that mean it’s dangerous to be alone?”
“I’m not in any danger, though. As you can see, my summons are very strong.”
Seo Arin deflected once, but Min Juri pressed on with a little more resolve.
“Still, you’re not at the level of Black Scythe-nim, who can handle everything alone, right? You never know when a threat might appear.”
“Well… I’ll give you that.”
“So even if it’s not ideal, how about forming a temporary alliance? If I give you buffs, you and your summons will become twice as strong.”
“Hmm…”
There was nothing wrong with Min Juri’s suggestion.
Refusing a chance to double their strength would be foolish.
‘Not like she’s going to ambush me.’
A buffer with no combat skills wouldn’t be much of a threat anyway.
And besides, Seo Arin’s summons would be guarding her like bodyguards 24/7.
‘She doesn’t even suspect that I might ambush her? What makes her trust me so much that she’d make this kind of offer?’
Clearly, Min Juri didn’t think Seo Arin would ever attack her.
That’s probably why she could make such a one-sided suggestion in the first place.
“Alright. Let’s cooperate for now. But—no backstabbing.”
“That goes without saying.”
“Whoever betrays the other has to give up on Ryu Min—how’s that?”
Min Juri nodded, as if she liked that condition.
“Then betrayal’s not an option. For either of us.”
“I would never betray. I can’t give up on Ryu Min.”
At the mention of Ryu Min, Min Juri’s eyes grew more serious.
Seo Arin also put on a determined look, as if to say she couldn’t give up either.
“Apply your buffs. Then I’ll have my summons protect you.”
“Got it.”
Min Juri cast her triple buff set on Seo Arin.
As the effects kicked in, Seo Arin and her summons grew stronger.
The summons scaled with Seo Arin’s stats, after all.
“Thanks.”
“It’s no big deal.”
“This place is dangerous. Let’s get out of the forest first.”
“Agreed.”
Seo Arin took the lead with her summons, and Min Juri followed behind.
Rustle— Rustle—
The Dark Ancient Trees were powerful monsters, but even they were no match for an overwhelming group assault.
“Stick a bit closer. You’ll be in danger if you lag behind.”
“Ah, okay.”
Just as Min Juri, who had been walking at a distance, moved closer—
Fwhoooosh!
Suddenly, a tree trunk shot out from the side.
But—
Kiiiek!
The scream came not from Min Juri, but from the monster.
Seo Arin’s soul knight had appeared at just the right moment and sliced through the tree trunk.
“Don’t worry. My soul knight will protect you.”
“Ah… thank you.”
“Really, it’s nothing.”
Having joined forces, the two now focused on getting out of the forest.
They wanted to find Black Scythe if possible—but tracking him was impossible for now.
*
Most of the players were shocked when they saw the mission.
Not because of the 72-hour survival goal—but because they were told to reduce the number of players to below 72 through killing.
Christine was no different.
‘Just like in Round 4, we have to kill others? I can’t do that…’
Back in Round 4, she had only been able to stain her hands with blood because she knew they’d revive.
But now, they were saying if you die, you’re erased after 10 minutes with no chance of coming back.
‘Can I really kill someone…?’
Her class was about saving others, not killing them.
Her face darkened at the thought of having to participate in killing—but then, a realization hit her.
She might not have to kill at all.
The realization came when she saw the message about the first death.
‘Even if I don’t kill, other people will…’
That meant she didn’t need to dirty her hands.
She just had to survive until the number dropped below 72.
Then, she could live without shedding a single drop of blood.
Unlike Round 4, this time the final objective was survival, not killing.
‘If it’s about surviving, I’m confident. I have healing skills, after all.’
Her healing skill restored both wounds and stamina.
She had no combat ability, but she could endure.
‘I need to go somewhere with no monsters.’
But her starting point was—of all places—the forest.
She activated her area detection skill, and sure enough, it was crawling with monsters.
‘I need to get out of this forest—no matter what.’
Just then—
[A second death has occurred.]
[Player nickname: ‘abcdef’]
[10 minutes have passed since death. The player will now be erased.]
[Remaining players: 141]
[Eliminated players: 2]
[Time remaining until the end of the round: 71:23:52]
‘Another one died? Not even 10 minutes after the first one?’
No matter how desperate, could someone really kill their teammate?
Hadn’t they just been fighting demons together in the last round?
‘I don’t know… I should just focus on staying alive…’
With that thought, she turned to move.
Grrrrrhhhhh—
Christine froze like a statue.
Right in front of her stood a monster known for its brutality—
An ogre was staring down at her.
